MTS reports growth

Russia’s largest cellco MTS has announced subscriber statistics for the end of June. The firm now has 48.04 million customers in Russia, up 41% from 34.09 million a year ago. 10.64 million of these are in the Moscow region, while a further 2.59 million are in St. Petersburg. MTS’ international subsidiaries have also seen strong growth over the past year. In Ukraine, UMC subscriptions were up 58.7% to 15.11 million, and Uzdunrobita in Uzbekistan saw user numbers rise 105.7% to 820,000. The smallest of its consolidated subsidiaries, Barash Turkmenistan, had 12,000 customers at the end of June, double the year-ago figure. In Belarus, MTS’ 49%-owned subsidiary, which is not consolidated in its results, saw annual subscriber growth of 60.5% to reach 2.58 million.
