SNO launch delayed

7 Jul 2006

The launch of South Africa’s second national operator (SNO) is unlikely to occur until the end of this year, months behind the original schedule. The SNO was granted the country’s second national wireline concession last December, with investors including state utility group Eskom and national rail operator Transnet. Johannesburg newspaper Business Day reports that the delay is playing into the hands of incumbent Telkom, which has signed long-term contracts with up to 90% of its corporate customers.
