6 Jul 2006

Indonesian telecoms operator Excelcomindo Pratama (Excel) says it has deployed routers supplied by Juniper Networks to improve the performance of its multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) VPN services and create a platform ready for the delivery of advanced services, including 3G.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Excel was the country’s third largest mobile operator at the end of March 2006, with 8.221 million subscribers, a market share of 16.73%. Market leader Telkomsel had 26.95 million users at that date, while second placed Satelindo had 12.96 million. Excel also provides data services, as well as fixed line offerings including voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) services and wholesale internet connectivity to local ISPs.
