MVNOs capture 14.8% of Dutch market

There were nearly 40 MVNOs active in the Netherlands at the end of March 2006 accounting for 14.8% of the total mobile market, up from 13% in March 2005, according to new research from Telecompaper. In the year to end-March 2006, the MVNOs increased their combined subscriber base by 15.2% to 2.5 million users. debitel is by far the largest player, with 1.2 million customers at the start of April, although it has experienced a slow down in growth; it has lost around 100,000 customers in the last six months, but still claimed 48.2% of the MVNO market by 31 March 2006. Tele2 Mobiel is the second largest player with 535,000 customers, up 16% from a year earlier. AH Mobiel clung of to third spot with 160,000 customers, up from 150,000 a year earlier.
