Kenyan cellcos go international

3 Jul 2006

Kenyan mobile operators Safaricom and Celtel have been issued with international gateway licences by the government, which should lead to cheaper international calls for the country’s mobile users. Until now overseas calls from cellular networks have had to be routed via Telkom Kenya’s international gateway. It is thought the new concessions could see a 50% reduction in international tariffs for cellular customers, with the new rates introduced as soon as next month.
