Colombia’s Ministerio de Comunicaciones (MdC) has confirmed that it will auction 3.5GHz spectrum for wireless broadband services on 14 July. According to BNamericas, the ministry will offer two blocks of spectrum in each of the country’s 32 departments. Each block of spectrum will comprise 28MHz of bandwidth and no applicant may hold more than one licence in each region. The licences will be suitable for point-to-point and point-to-multi-point (P2MP) networks. Cali-based Orbitel is one company likely to enter the auction, having already made clear its intention to launch a city-wide WiMAX service.
