MTNL to pilot WiMAX

26 Jun 2006

MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd) is set to become India’s first WiMAX operator, according to EFY News. The state-run telco has revealed plans to launch a high speed wireless broadband pilot service in Delhi and Mumbai, though its plans for a commercial rollout hinge on the Telecoms Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) assigning frequency spectrum and pricing for WiMAX services. If the pilot is a success and MTNL gains sufficient spectrum, it plans to extend WiMAX to other parts of the country, EFY says.
