MTC to publish regulatory changes soon

22 Jun 2006

According to BNamericas, the Ministry of Transport and Communication (MTC) plans to publish proposed amendments to the country’s telecommunications legislation within the next three weeks. One such proposal includes the establishment of a single unified licence, the aim of which is to reduce bureaucracy when existing operators want to launch new services. Also among the planned changes is the introduction of sanctions for operators not meeting their licence commitments. When asked about the possibilities of issuing a fifth mobile licence, MTC undersecretary Juan Pacheco said that private investment promotion agency ProInversión was evaluating the market and would shortly declare a date for launching the process.
