3G licence awarded; trials to begin Q3 2006

The Post and Telecommunications Authority has issued a licence to Novator that permits trials of 3G services beginning in Q3 2006. The Icelandic investment company is controlled by Björgólfur Björgólfsson, Iceland’s first dollar billionaire. The country’s existing operators, Og Vodafone and Siminn, have not to date received a next generation concession.
