Telecom gets Rev A

21 Jun 2006

Telecom New Zealand is to increase the data transmission speeds on its cellular network as part of a contract signed with Lucent Technologies. The vendor will supply CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (Revision A) equipment, raising maximum data speeds to 3.1Mbps and improving the efficiency of the network. Telecom says the first upgraded sections of its network will be active by the end of the year. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, the firm currently has around 1.8 million mobile subscribers and just under half of New Zealand’s overall cellular market.
