Brazilian mobile users top 92.4 million in May

20 Jun 2006

According to preliminary data from Brazil’s telecoms regulator Anatel, the number of mobile phone users in the country topped 92.4 million at the end of May, thanks to more than 1.8 million new net additions in the month. BNamericas writes that the strong subscriber growth was bolstered by increased sales of handsets in the run-up to Mother’s Day – an event which has traditionally created a blip in cell phone sales. To date, 2006 has seen the net addition of 6.2 million new users, a rise of 7.15%, while year-on-year growth reached 25.27%.
