MII frustrating DoCoMo’s 3G rollout in China

NTT DoCoMo’s plans to roll out 3G services in China are being frustrated because the regulator, the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), has not granted 3G licences yet. According to Takeshi Natsuno, a senior vice president for the Japanese cellco’s multimedia services division, DoCoMo will only be able to decide what type of strategic alliances to pursue with Chinese partners once it knows what kind of 3G technology standard China’s mobile carriers will adopt. For now, the Japanese carrier can only wait, he said.
