Belize Telecom expands fixed line services

Belize Telecom has announced the completion of a project to expand its services in the west of the country’s capital, Belmopan. The expansion makes telephony and high speed internet services available in areas including University Heights, Cohune Walk, Maya Mopan, Rivera Area, Salvapan, Las Flores, Mountain View Extension and Roaring Creek Village. At the end of Belize Telecom’s financial year ended 31 March 2005, its total number of fixed lines stood at 34,799, up 11% year-on-year. By the end of March 2006 the telco also provided mobile services to 118,500 subscribers. It faces competition in the mobile arena from SpeedNet Communications, which had around 20,000 subscribers at the end of December 2005.
