TalkTalk given slapped wrist over unsolicited marketing calls

13 Jun 2006

The Irish telecoms regulator ComReg and the country’s Data Protection Commissioner have formally reprimanded fixed line service provider TalkTalk for ‘serious breaches of conduct’ in relation to cold calling. The watchdog says it has received a number of complaints from people who have been approached by TalkTalk despite having notified the company of their desire not to receive unsolicited marketing. ComReg has ordered it to stop all direct marketing until it has audited its procedures and rectified the problem. TalkTalk has apologised to its customers for the error and for any inconvenience caused.
