Singapore’s dominant telecoms company Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) says it will spend SGD100 million (USD63 million) over the next two years to expand and enhance its internet services for business users. According to a report on Channel NewsAsia, the operator is aiming to become the top corporate ISP in the Asia-Pacific region by 2009. SingTel already commands a 9.5% share of the VPN market in the region and is looking to boost this by upgrading its infrastructure and expanding its product portfolio. Corporate business accounted for more than 40% of SingTel’s earnings in 2005.
