12 Jun 2006

UK fixed line incumbent BT Group and pay-TV provider BSkyB have emerged as favourites to buy the UK ISP business of AOL, according to the Sunday Times. AOL, which is owned by Time Warner, has appointed Citigroup to review strategic options for the UK business, and potential bidders have until 12 June to register their interest, the newspaper said without citing sources. AOL hopes to fetch around GBP1 billion (USD1.8 billion) for AOL UK, which is the country’s third largest broadband provider by subscribers, with a 13% share of the market at the start of 2006.
