ZTE to deploy Tata CDMA network, papers say

9 Jun 2006

India’s Tata Teleservices has contracted ZTE of China to deploy CDMA2000-based wireless network infrastructure, according to local news reports. Tata currently operates a nationwide CDMA2000 1x network, but there are conflicting reports as to whether the deal covers an upgrade of infrastructure to 3G or the expansion of services to rural regions. It is thought that ZTE will upgrade the infrastructure with EV-DO technology to enable the launch of 3G services, but this has yet to be confirmed. ZTE is expected to roll out the infrastructure over a three year period. No further details were disclosed.
