Regulator may force network split

The president of Italy’s telecoms regulator Agcom says he will consider forcing dominant telco Telecom Italia to separate its retail and network operations. Corrado Calabro told local business daily Il Sole 24 Ore that he has studied the model used in the UK, where BT was made to create a new business unit to handle its network operations and make it easier for competitors to gain equal access to its infrastructure.
