9 Jun 2006

According to a local industry body, Japanese cellco au Corporation gained a greater number of net subscribers in May than arch-rival NTT DoCoMo, the first time such a scenario has happened for six months. The KDDI-owned cellco added 148,700 customers, while DoCoMo recorded a 133,800 net rise. As was reported yesterday, Vodafone KK, acquired by Softbank earlier this year, lagged some way behind, posting a net increase of only 1,100. Softbank plans to rename Vodafone KK as Softbank Mobile in October 2006.
