CPP forces price hike

8 Jun 2006

Russian cellular operator Utel says it is raising tariffs by up to 14% following the introduction of a calling party pays (CPP) system. While incoming calls will be free for Utel subscribers from 1 July, outgoing calls will see price rises of between RUB0.20 and RUB0.50 per minute. Prime Tass reports that services such as SMS messaging and GPRS data transfer will not be affected. Utel, a subsidiary of state-backed Uralsvyazinform, claimed 3.95 million subscribers at the start of June.
