FT unit to supply mobile satellite services to Thuraya in Algeria

Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company has signed a contract with France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications (FTMSC) under which the latter will provide it with mobile satellite services in Algeria. The France Telecom-controlled subsidiary, which has held a licence to offer mobile satellite services in Algeria since June 2004, will supply voice and data solutions to customers in towns and villages outside the reach of the terrestrial PSTN. To date it has focused its efforts on delivering communications to the oil, gas, mining, media, tourism and maritime industries, as well as providing services to government institutions.
