Cabovisão bought by Cogeco for USD600 million

Canadian cable operator Cogeco Cable has agreed to purchase Portugese cableco

Cabovisão-Televisao for EUR465 million (USD600 million) from fellow Canadian operator Cable Satisfaction International Inc (CSII). The price includes the purchase of senior debt and reimbursement of other liabilities of Cabovisão.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database notes that Cabovisão is Portugal’s second largest cable network operator behind Portugal Telecom. Its 13,000km cable network passes around 800,000 homes and businesses, of which approximately 220,000 were taking telephony services by the end of 2005, up from 200,000 twelve months earlier. It claimed 128,000 cable modem internet customers at the end of 2005, up from 100,000 a year before, giving it 25% of the overall cable internet market.
