ONO launches double-play over leased infrastructure

2 Jun 2006

Grupo Corporativo ONO, the largest cable operator in Spain, has launched its first double-play voice and data product over non-cable infrastructure, utilising lines leased from incumbent Telefónica de España. ONO was the first Spanish operator to provide triple-play services via a single bill over its own cable networks, but the new ‘ONO Light’ service is the first time it has offered more than a single service via Telefónica’s PSTN. The company’s franchise area covers around 84% of the country’s households, but its cable infrastructure currently reaches just six million of the country’s 14 million-plus population. ONO Light will be provided in regions were the company intends to roll out cable services in the near future, to pave the way for the migration of customers to its own infrastructure.
