Asia-America Gateway cable to be announced today

1 Jun 2006

A major new cable connecting Asia to the US will be formally announced today at an official signing ceremony in Hong Kong. The new cable – dubbed the Asia-America Gateway – will run from Malaysia to Hong Kong, the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii and the US. Branches will also connect Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Vietnam. According to the consortium building the cable, which includes Telekom Malaysia and Reach, the system will ‘mitigate the existing cable capacity shortfall to the US and be able to meet the higher bandwidth requirements from internet users in the region.’
