Satmex 6 launches

30 May 2006

Mexican satellite company Satmex launched its Satmex 6 satellite on Saturday, writes BNamericas. Satmex 6 was originally to have taken off from French Guiana on 17 May at a cost of USD270 million. It is due to begin providing communications and broadcast services in July, including pay-TV, to the US and Latin America.

Satmex has long struggled with an unmanageable debt pile, but last month signed a final debt restructuring agreement with its creditors ending two years of negotiations. It had been reported that it was USD55 million short of the investment needed to fund the launch of Satmex 6.
