According to BNamericas, the Brazilian mobile operator Oi will stop offering handset subsidies on its pre-paid phone packages, in an effort to improve profitability. A spokesperson for the company said that ‘From now on handsets will be supplied direct from the manufacturers’, and Oi will no longer act as a third-party handset supplier to retail outlets. Instead it will focus its efforts on selling SIM cards.
