Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers, NTT DoCoMo, is reported to have entered into a strategic agreement with Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong), a unit of Hutchison Telecommunications International, according to Dow Jones, quoting sources familiar with the deal. Under the proposed tie-up, the pair will launch 3G mobile applications over Hutch’s network in Hong Kong. Although no details are available, it is understood that the two companies will hold a press conference to flesh out plans of their proposed agreement.
The Japanese wireless operator has an approximately 25% stake in Hutchison Telecom (Hong Kong). Back in 2001 it said it was exploring the possibility of cooperating with its Hong Kong partner, including introducing i-mode in Hong Kong.
