LGT to launch PTTin 2H06

26 May 2006

South Korea’s LG Telecom (LGT) has revealed plans to launch wireless push-to-talk (PTT) services over wireless broadband in the second half of this year, according to ETNews. Details are limited at this stage, but the service is believed to be similar to the iDEN digital trunk radio service offered by Nextel in the US and Latin America, which provides customers an instant connection with a nominated user or group of users at the touch of a button. However, the main advantage of LGT’s model is the ability to use the service via existing networks. The operator says it expects to have signed up 100,000 PT users by the end of 2006.
