Telenor to push 3G in 2006

25 May 2006

Norwegian telecoms group Telenor has outlined a major push to increase the take-up of its 3G mobile services, to help offset declining revenues from its traditional fixed line business. Currently Telenor Mobil customers with 3G handsets generate 55% of the company’s data traffic, despite representing only around 5% of its subscriber base of around 2.7 million. ‘We see 400,000 customers in Norway having 3G phones by the end of 2006,’ Morten Karlsen Soerby, head of Telenor’s Nordic operations, said at a press conference.
