Namibia’s government has awarded the country’s second mobile network operating licence to Powercom, following a recommendation by the Namibian Communications Commission (NCC). Powercom, a joint venture between local state-owned power utility NamPower and Norwegian telecoms group Telenor, will compete against government-owned Mobile Communications (MTC), which has approximately 495,000 GSM subscribers in a country of two million people.
