Naya Tel, an alternative telephony and broadband operator in Pakistan, has contracted Alcatel to deploy a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) solution capable of delivering a full range of high bandwidth triple-play services to more than 30,000 subscribers in the capital city of Islamabad. Alcatel is supplying its 7340 fibre-to-the-user (FTTU) solution, along with its 5020 Softswitch. Naya Tel says the first phase of the project has been tested and commissioned, whilst installation in most residential sectors will be competed by August 2006.
