Telkom sale delayed to next year?

17 May 2006

Reports from Kenya are suggesting that the planned privatisation of Telkom Kenya may not go ahead until 2007. Local newspaper The EastAfrican says advisors to the sale have still not been appointed. The government is hoping to sell off 9% of Telkom’s stake in the cellular operator Safaricom to UK-based Vodafone, using the proceeds to finance a modernisation of Telkom in the run-up to its privatisation.
