Telekom Austria has reported a 16.6% rise in first-quarter core profit on the back of a positive performance at its mobile division. Group EBITDA increased from EUR432.5 million in the first three months of 2005 to EUR504.3 million in the most recent period, with much of the growth stemming from the telco’s acquisition last year of Bulgarian cellular operator Mobiltel. Wireless EBITDA rose 38.4% while the wireline division reported a 4.4% fall. Group revenues were up 15.8% to EUR1.16 billion. Telekom Austria had 2.77 million domestic fixed line customers at the end of March and added 39,800 net new ADSL customers in the quarter to take its total to 616,000. The wireless division, which has operations in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Liechtenstein and Slovenia, claimed 9.13 million subscribers.
