Digital Telecommunications Philippines (Digitel) has denied rumours suggesting that it has courted two Malaysian telecom companies over a possible investment in its mobile phone business, Sun Cellular. Reacting to a report in Malaysian financial paper The Edge, the company refuted reports that it had been approached and dismissed the article as ‘purely speculative.’ The Edge wrote that Sun Cellular, the smallest of the country’s three mobile operators, had approached Telekom Malaysia™ and Maxis Communications concerning a strategic partnership. TM chief executive Abdul Wahid Omar confirmed his company was not holding talks, but added that the group would be interested in entering the Filipino mobile market.
