Venezuela’s mobile market grows 55.5%

At the end of March, Venezuela’s mobile sector had grown 55.5% year-on-year, reaching a total of 13.6 million subscribers, the country’s telecoms regulator Conatel reported in a statement. Mobile traffic grew nearly 30% to reach 3.62 billion minutes in the first quarter, and 5.66 billion text messages were sent during the quarter, up 84% year-on-year. Fixed lines increased 8% in 1Q06 compared to 1Q05, with 275,000 new lines being installed, bringing the total to 3.7 million.

Conatel also reported that total mobile services revenues were USD4.95 billion in 2005, 42.6% higher than in 2004, while total investments reached USD771 million.
