BT selects Alcatel for pan-European converged service

15 May 2006

UK fixed line incumbent BT Group has selected Alcatel as prime contractor and systems integrator for its planned fixed-mobile managed communication solution for enterprise customers in the UK and Europe. Enterprise Fixed Mobile Convergence will offer corporate users a dual-mode handset with one single phone number that can make and receive calls using either a fixed, W-LAN or mobile connection. BT is targeting large business customers in the UK as well as multinational corporate customers throughout Europe, and the service is expected to be commercially deployed in early 2007.

Alcatel will lead the design, integration and testing of the end-to-end solution. It will supply key platform elements from its Managed Communication Services (MCS) portfolio and will also ensure that the solution integrates seamlessly into BT’s enterprise customer sites. It will work alongside Lucent Technologies, which will provide its VPN Firewall and VitalAAA security products and design team specialists. The value of the deals was not disclosed.
