SFR overlays W-CDMA network with Siemens’ HSDPA solution

Paris-based mobile operator SFR is equipping its existing W-CDMA network with High Speed Data Packet Access (HSDPA) technology from Siemens of Germany. According to a statement, SFR will launch the new service, called 3G+, in the western French region of Nantes/Saint Nazaire/Rennes, offering its customers mobile network access with a maximal transmission data rate of 1.8Mbps. SFR is the first French mobile operator to launch HSDPA technology commercially on its core W-CDMA network.
