LGI grows on acquisitions

US-based cable and broadband provider Liberty Global has reported a 38% rise in first-quarter revenues to USD1.63 billion, mainly due to the addition of new networks at its European subsidiary UPC. Net earnings rose from USD17 million in the first three months of 2005 to USD43 million in the most recent quarter. The firm, which has operations across Europe, Asia and Latin America, now has 13.6 million CATV subscribers, 3.3 million broadband internet customers and 2.4 million telephony subscribers.
