MTNL to receive NLD licence

9 May 2006

State-run Indian telco Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is set to receive a national long-distance (NLD) operating concession allowing it to offer services over its own network, according to the Press Trust of India. ‘The NLD licence to MTNL is being granted,’ a senior official at the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said. MTNL currently provides NLD services via the network of sister company BSNL. It hopes to cut costs by migrating users to its own infrastructure.
