FT calls for complete EU deregulation

9 May 2006

In its response to a EU-led consultation on the industry, France Télécom (FT) has called for a complete deregulation of the sector, writes French daily Les Echos. The paper reports that FT has proposed an end to retail tariff regulation commencing in 2007, followed by even more wide-ranging measures in 2008, with the ultimate goal of achieving ‘total deregulation’ by 2012. The French heavyweight cited the need for it to be able to compete with new players such as Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Skype which are exempt from regulation and do not contribute in terms of financing the networks they use.
