DiGi launches Islamic wireless internet service

8 May 2006

Malaysian cellco DiGi Telecommunications has launched a new wireless internet service specifically targeting the country’s Muslim population. The operator says the WAP Taqwa service is the first of its kind in Malaysia, offering Islamic services for the customers via GPRS and EDGE technology. It hopes to sign-up 30% of the country’s Muslim population to the service. ‘To fulfill the needs of Muslim clients, WAP Taqwa was created specially to provide guidance, inspiration and information to perform the haj and umrah as well as to undertake other religious obligations,’ Yohani Yusof, DiGi’s head of segment marketing, told the Daily Star.
