AOL to sell underachieving French/German businesses

8 May 2006

US-based internet service provider AOL, part of the Time Warner media group, is believed to have put its French and German operations up for sale, having struggled to make an impact on incumbents France Télécom and Deutsche Telekom. Sources say the ISP has retained Citigroup to oversee the sale of the underperforming businesses, thought to be worth a total of EUR700 million (USD891.2 million). It will however, hold on to its UK business and continues to operate internet portals in Germany and France.
