5 May 2006

Mobile operator O2 UK is the latest company rumoured to be eyeing the UK broadband businesses of Cable & Wireless and Tiscali, according to the Independent. A spokesperson for O2, now owned by Spain’s Telefónica, told the paper: ‘We’re looking at options to either buy an ISP or go down the wholesale route or, alternatively, we may do nothing. However, no approaches have been made and no decision has yet been taken.’ Cable & Wireless’ broadband business Bulldog and Tiscali UK have already been singled out by a number of potential suitors, including Vodafone, as operators focus on the development of a converged portfolio of services.
