At least ten local and international companies, including investment consortia and telecoms operators, are vying for Saudi Arabia’s second fixed line licence and third mobile concession, reports Arab News. Last month the government announced its intentions to issue new licences in the Kingdom by the end of this year, with the licensing schedule to be published in the third quarter and tenders to be carried out in the fourth quarter. According to the newspaper, most of the companies interested in the planned awards previously competed for the country’s second mobile licence, won by a consortium led by Etisalat.
