Mobile-8 launches Palm Treo 650 Smartphone

3 May 2006

Indonesian mobile operator Mobile-8 Telecom has launched the Palm Treo 650 Smartphone on its CDMA network giving its subscribers internet access capabilities with a dual-band mobile phone. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Mobile-8 Telecom was set up at the end of 2002 and launched commercial services on 8 December 2003. In 2004 it acquired three AMPS mobile operators — Komselindo, Metrosel and Telesera — which were failing in the face of competition from bigger rivals, but later acquired a CDMA licence and migrated its users to its CDMA2000 1x and 1xEV-DO networks. It offers services in Java and Madura under the brand name Fren.
