Digicel completes Bouygues Telecom Caraibe purchase

3 May 2006

Digicel has completed its USD196 million acquisition of Bouygues Telecom Caraibe, based in the French West Indies. Bouygues Telecom Caraibe, formerly a wholly owned subsidiary of the Frence cellco of the same name, operates networks in Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana and claimed over 160,000 subscribers at the start of this year. In 2005 the group recorded revenues of EUR117 million (USD148 million).

The three new territories will be added to Digicel’s existing portfolio of operations, taking its total number of networks to 20. In the past 14 months, Digicel has completed four acquisitions including Cingular Wireless’ Caribbean and Bermuda operations. The acquisition of Bouygues Telecom Caraibe gives Digicel access to an established pre-paid and post-paid customer base and a unified GSM network with coverage of more than a million people. The three territories have economies based on the Euro and are popular destinations for international tourists.
