True Move, Thailand’s third largest mobile operator, reported that its monthly rate of net new subscriber acquisitions dropped by 65% in March after its two bigger rivals, AIS and DTAC, launched price-cutting campaigns. At the end of March True Move claimed 4.9 million customers, representing a 14% share of the market. In the month it added 66,825 net new subscribers, down from 188,607 in February. The company has forecast 5.7 million subscribers by the end of 2006. Analysts expect its parent telco True Corp to report a net profit in the first quarter due mainly to THB1.2 billion in foreign exchange gains. True made a loss of THB2.7 billion in the fourth quarter of 2005.
