Celtel targets USD500 million entry in Angola, Senegal and Ghana

According to a report in Business Week, Celtel International is planning to enter the mobile markets of Angola, Senegal and Ghana in an expansion programme expected to cost around USD500 million. It is unclear when the plans will be cemented as the auctions for new operating licences in Ghana and Senegal have been postponed to June and July 2006 respectively. Furthermore, sources at Celtel told Business Week that the expansion plans were originally expected to be finalised by the end of 2005 but have been mired by high-level regulatory hitches in the target countries.
