VIPnet, the second largest mobile operator in Croatia, has launched the country’s first HSDPA network. The so-called 3.5G technology is initially available in Zagreb, Rijeka and Opatija. It enables mobile internet speeds of up to 1.8Mbps (download) and up to 384kbps (upload). Marie-Helne Magenschab, CEO of VIPnet, told a press conference that the HSDPA service provides users with data speeds of four to seven times faster than existing UMTS and EDGE services. VIPnet’s customers currently using UMTS/EDGE-enabled datacards can upgrade to HSDPA at no extra charge.
