27 Apr 2006

Entel of Chile has posted record first quarter revenue of CLP201 billion (USD402 million). The 7% year-on-year increase is largely down to a 22% sales hike from mobile unit Entel PCS. Overall EBITDA was up 16% to CLP77.1 billion, while net income came in at CLP23.4 billion, comparing favourably to the CLP19.8 billion of the corresponding period of 2005. Entel PCS increased its subscriber base by 27%, reaching 4.3 million at the end of the period. The post-paid subscriber base rose 29%, and now represents 19% of the overall total. ARPU slipped 4% compared to 1Q05. Entel broadband customers (WiLL and ADSL) stood at 51,818, a fall of 16%. The company says that the decline was mainly from the residential segment, as broadband subscribers in the corporate and SME segments increased by 5%.
